Houston is the largest city in Texas and the fourth largest in the United States.

Oil and energy refineries are everywhere in the city and its surrounding areas, and it’s easy to see why its former team was named the Houston Oilers.

Sports, like everything else are big in Texas, and the Lone Star State has done a good job of combining two major businesses.

What do I mean by that?

Not only were the Tennessee Titans known as the Houston Oilers at one point in time, but the sports facilities in Houston have been sponsored by energy companies in the area.

The Houston Astros‘ ballpark was named “Enron Field” before the major corporation went bankrupt in 2001.

Long story short, the Astros bought back the naming rights before selling them to Minute Maid, another major company in the Houston area.

Then we have the Houston Texans, who came into the NFL in 2002 to replace the team that left only a few short years ago.

Reliant Energy, likely the biggest electricity provider in Houston, eventually bought the naming rights to the Texans’ new stadium.

Many people have been dependent on Reliant Energy for several years, and before the electric deregulation, it was the only option for many residents of Houston surrounding areas.

However, residents now have a choice when it comes to their energy providers.

Other electric companies in the Houston area include Bounce Energy, Gexa Energy, Tri Eagle, Champion Energy, Amigo Energy, Green Mountain Energy and more.
