TXU Electric

Its actual name is TXU Energy, but through the years, many people have known it as many different things.

In 1945 Texas Utilities was formed as a company that owned Dallas Power and Light (DP&L), Texas Electric Service Company (TESCO) and Texas Power and Light (TP&L). These three companies continued to operate and in 1984, they merged and became TU Electric (Texas Utilities) which eventually became known as TXU in 1998.

In 1996, TXU electric company merged with Lone Star Gas, which helped TXU become the largest provider of gas and electricity in Texas.

By 2002, Texas became a deregulated state, which meant it had to compete for its businesses. The deregulation allowed for other electric companies to come into the Dallas area and compete for business there when prior to the deregulation, TXU was the main provider in the Dallas area and other north Texas towns.

However, the deregulation wasn’t an entirely bad thing for TXU as it allowed the company to move into other cities it wouldn’t have otherwise and compete for customers’ business. The company now had the right to expand its services into Houston and other deregulated areas throughout the state.

In 2007, the TXU electric company was bought out by KKR, TPG Capital and Goldman Sach and as a result, the electric portion of the company is known as Oncor Electric Delivery while the electric generation business is called Luminat. This left TXU Energy strictly as a retail provider.

Here at Discount Electricity, we currently do not offer service through TXU but to find out if it’s the best option for you, go to their website or call a company representative for a quote. Once you do this, compare the results with our prices.

To compare our rates, simply type your zip code into our compare box, select ‘commercial’ or ‘residential’ and click the compare button. If you’re looking for a long-term-residential rate, we recommend you select a fixed rate because it will be more consistent than a variable rate, and you’ll know what to expect for your monthly electric bills.

For any further questions, comments or concerns, please don’t hesitate to give us a call anytime at 1-800-971-4020 and one of our expert energy consultants will be more than happy to help you out with all of your electricity needs.
